Detailed Description
DMPT (chemically known as dimethyl-β-propionamide thiazoline), an ingredient used in animal feed, is a sulfur-containing compound naturally found in seaweed and wild fish and shrimp. As a fourth-generation aquatic attractant, it is produced industrially via chemical synthesis and can achieve a purity level of over 98%. It is a core functional additive in aquaculture feeds. Its key advantages lie in three main areas: attracting feed intake, promoting growth, and enhancing product quality. DMPT exhibits exceptionally strong feeding attraction, powerfully stimulating the olfactory and gustatory nerves of fish, shrimp, and crabs. Its feeding-stimulating effect is 1.56 times that of glutamine and 2.56 times that of betaine, earning it the nickname “the ‘fish-bite-a-rock’ attractant.” It significantly boosts feed consumption and feeding frequency. As a highly efficient methyl donor, DMPT promotes the secretion of digestive enzymes and nutrient absorption, with growth-promoting effects 2.5 times greater than those of conventional semi-natural feeds. Additionally, DMPT possesses ecdysone-like activity, accelerating molting and growth in shrimp and crabs. It also improves meat quality, imparting freshwater species with a natural marine flavor and thereby enhancing their economic value.
In addition, it enhances the stress resistance of aquatic animals (including tolerance to high temperatures, hypoxia, and osmotic shock), while also exhibiting liver-protective effects and garlic-like antibacterial activity. It helps reduce disease incidence and is naturally present in aquatic animals, posing no residue risk and allowing for long-term use. The product is a white crystalline powder that dissolves readily in water and is hygroscopic (though clumping does not affect its efficacy). It is suitable for a wide range of freshwater and marine aquaculture species, including carp, crucian carp, shrimp, and crabs. The recommended dosage for feed supplementation is 100–500 grams per ton of complete feed. This product is widely used in formulated aquaculture feeds, premixes, and fishing bait formulations, making it a key ingredient for achieving both high efficiency and environmentally friendly aquaculture practices.
